Skunk Ape

Board quality is second to none. Can’t wait to get out and see what it can do. Only thing I’m nervous about is my sz13/14 boot size. Reading reviews that are making me believe that I should have gone up to the 170 UW to be comfortable .. anyone rock a 165 with a sz 13 or larger boot? Looking to hit some groomers .

I reviewed the skunk ape before after 2 days of riding but now I have 24 days on it up at mammoth. This board is sick I road on powder days with my stance all the way back the board had a ton of float with little effort in waist deep snow The 169 handle the trees and the deep powder with ease. It’s a bull dozer on the tracked out runs plowing over moguls. I felt that it would hold a line better than other boards I’ve had especially on those oh ****'!!!! moments where you point and shoot and hold on for the ride. On the groomers with a normal stance it was no joke plenty of control and still plenty of float for any powder stashes. Pretty easy to ride switch a little scary with it being so wide when getting on switch side ( Im sure it’s my skills that make it scary not the board) The magne traction is real the edges seem to grab and cut on any condition of snow. It’s a lot of board to throw around I some time wish it had 10% more flex but I also have stiff binding (now JJ model). I like it so much I was going to also buy a 165 to ride in the early and spring season it’s hard to make the choice to ride a such a nice board when the snow base depth is questionable. I made it 24 days of riding without needing p tex work done. Its sad I’m back to riding my old beater board since it’s spring. (not a lib tech I was uneducated when I purchased it 9 years ago and went with a flashy name brand instead of a company dedicated to the tech side) Mammoth is going to be open to August I’ll be missing the libtech I’ll miss you skunk ape. If your thinking of buying this board you should it’s an all mountain charger if you don’t like it HMU on IG and I'll buy it off you if the price is right I want to have a collection in all sizes. Ps the stump ape looks like it would also be a super sick board to ride. I kind of wish they would offer a skunk ape type board with all the rocker camber banana combos lib tech offers. Libtech if you decide to stop making this board let me know I want to by another one just to have. Thanks for making a great product. I’m not a pro rider just a dude that loves snowboarding HMU if you want to sponsor a giant size human for your skunk ape line lol

I am on my second Skunk Ape. If you are over 6'5" and over 250# with a big ass foot, get this board and have the time of your life. Support board builders in the Northwest who love snowboarding. You only have a few options really, and this is the best.

No lie, in my first four days on this board I went from having just learned how really move edge to edge on tame slopes, to laying down long precise carves down steeps that I wouldn't have dreamed of attempting before. The truly amazing thing is the edge grip and hold, which, as another review described: "Defies physics." It really does. All the washing out on my soft, rocker rentals had left me pretty scared of hard snow. The way this board keeps you on edge even though the feel like you should definitely be on your ass. I feel like the standard width could be another (at least) 2mm wider in the waist. For my 165, 268 is not that wide, and even with my size 12 shrink tech boots, I have enough toe overhang with binding angles that I wouldn't be confident to try extreme carves. I'm guessing the narrowness has something to do with the fact that the board holds its edge so well, so maybe it really couldn't be wider. I just can't imagine someone with size 14+ feet being able to do much in way of turning on this board, (unless they're on the 170) and all the sizes are marketed for "big guys"...... In general I think it wouldn't hurt Lib Tech to add a tiny bit more width to their 160+ length boards. Yes, they have some UW sizes, but it would be great to have something still within the range of normal wide like 270/272
